# Emerson’s Emerald AI investment and Yosemite’s grants: two capital routes

Emerson participated in Emerald AI’s $150m Series A. Yosemite separately reported over $18m in grants; the disclosures identify different recipients and funding routes.

Emerson Collective participated in Emerald AI’s $150 million Series A financing announced on 25 August 2026. In oncology, Yosemite separately reported more than $18 million in grants through a donor-advised charitable vehicle since its 2023 launch. The announcements describe two uses of capital at different development stages: expanding a company’s commercial deployments and supporting research that precedes traditional investment.

The connection between the organizations has its own structure. Yosemite’s 2023 launch statement distinguished Emerson’s prospective limited-partner role in its first fund from the management of an existing Emerson health portfolio. Reading the current funding records alongside that relationship produces a more useful map than treating every Emerson-related investment or grant as one budget.

## Emerald AI: company financing for commercial deployment

[Emerald AI’s issuer announcement](https://www.emeraldai.co/blog/emerald-ai-raises-150-million-series-a) describes an oversubscribed $150 million Series A at a $1.05 billion valuation, co-led by Energize Capital and DCVC. Emerson Collective appears among the participating investors, alongside financial and strategic backers.

The company said the new capital would expand commercial deployments worldwide with AI firms, data-center operators and electricity utilities. Its software manages computing workloads and on-site energy resources to adjust a data center’s electricity demand when the grid is stressed. The financing therefore supports the commercial expansion of an operating technology business; it is not described as a research grant.

The $150 million is the company’s round total, while $1.05 billion is its stated valuation. Neither figure supplies Emerson’s individual contribution or ownership percentage. The announcement establishes a named participation in that financing without disclosing an investor-specific ticket or negotiated security rights.

## Yosemite: charitable research support alongside venture investing

Yosemite’s [12 February 2026 grant announcement](https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/yosemite-announces-more-than-18-million-deployed-in-grants-302685606.html) places its more-than-$18-million figure across the period since launch in 2023. It describes support through a donor-advised charitable vehicle operating alongside its venture investments, directed toward scientific work before conventional investment becomes suitable.

That support has a stated research-to-company connection. Yosemite cited preclinical work led by Craig Crews at Yale as contributing foundational insights behind the formation of Quarry Thera. The example describes scientific translation into company creation, rather than an automatic conversion of every grant into an equity investment.

The platform also includes an American Cancer Society partnership that annually identifies research areas of mutual scientific interest. Separately, directed healthcare grants support work at Mayo Clinic and City of Hope, including diagnostic tools, patient signals and care decisions. These are named research and care-delivery channels, broader than a list of venture portfolio companies.

The cumulative grant figure is Yosemite’s reported activity. The release does not identify all of it as Emerson-funded or allocate individual amounts to the named recipients.

## The historical link separates an LP role from an advisory mandate

When [Yosemite announced its independent launch in August 2023](https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/emerson-collective-health-spins-off-to-form-new-investment-fund-yosemite-announces-first-close-of-oversubscribed-200m-fund-to-accelerate-transformative-cancer-ventures-301890424.html), it said Emerson Collective would be a limited partner in Yosemite Fund I. It separately said Yosemite would manage the Emerson Health legacy portfolio, ECI Health Funds, as an investment adviser.

Those statements describe different relationships: capital entering a fund and responsibility for managing an existing portfolio. They provide historical context for the independent firm’s origins; they do not make every later Yosemite grant an Emerson allocation. The 2026 grant announcement identifies its own charitable funding route, while Emerald AI names Emerson directly in a company financing.

Altss’s [broader family-office overview](https://altss.com/blog/the-50-largest-family-offices-in-the-world-2026) discusses Emerson’s investment and philanthropic activities together. The named records here make the counterparties more specific. A company financing, an academic grant, a fund commitment and an advisory mandate serve different decisions. For a researcher tracing capital, the relevant record is the one naming the recipient, the funding mechanism and the investor or manager’s actual role.
