# Mesirow’s 2026 retirement deals: which business transferred, and when?

Original Mesirow announcements distinguish the completed LeafHouse advisory deal from the flexPATH agreement, technology investment and platform asset definitions.

Coverage period: July 1–September 30, 2026. Publication date: October 15, 2026. This is a selected original-source historical review.

Mesirow’s July 1 closing of its LeafHouse Financial Advisors acquisition and its August 13 agreement for flexPATH Strategies’ plan-level 3(38) business describe different transaction stages and business boundaries. Reading the original documents together gives retirement advisers and plan-service researchers a clearer answer than treating both as completed purchases of whole firms.

This selected review follows a May agreement into a July completion, then examines the separate August agreement. The July and August events fall within Q3 2026. It is not a census of retirement advisory consolidation, and the earlier May document supplies transaction context rather than another Q3 event.

## LeafHouse: distinguish the advisory acquisition from the technology investment

In its [May 4 announcement](https://www.mesirow.com/press-releases/mesirow-to-acquire-leafhouse-financial-advisors-a-division-of-leafhouse-financial-group-expanding-mesirows-fiduciary-solutions-platform), Mesirow said it had agreed to acquire LeafHouse Financial Advisors, a division of LeafHouse Financial Group. It also said it would make a strategic investment in LeafHouse Financial Services to support technology development. The advisory business would become part of Mesirow Fiduciary Solutions after closing; LeafHouse Financial Services would continue developing technology solutions.

The distinction matters when identifying the acquired operation. An acquisition of the advisory business and an investment in the technology business are separate disclosed actions. The announcement does not establish that Mesirow bought all of LeafHouse Financial Group or all of its technology operations.

The May release expected closing in the third quarter, subject to customary conditions. Mesirow’s [July 1 completion announcement](https://www.mesirow.com/press-releases/mesirow-completes-acquisition-and-launches-precision-fiduciary-partners) then supplied the next event: the acquisition of LeafHouse Financial Advisors had closed, and the acquired team would operate as Precision Fiduciary Partners, A Mesirow Company.

LeafHouse’s [current public service page](https://www.leafhouse.com/flexfiduciary) also confirms the July 1 acquisition date and the Precision Fiduciary Partners operating name. That page is undated as a publication; it corroborates the event without creating another dated transaction announcement.

## flexPATH: a defined business, with closing still prospective in the announcement

Mesirow’s [August 13 release](https://www.mesirow.com/press-releases/mesirow-fiduciary-solutions-expands-retirement-market-footprint-through-acquisition-of-flexpath-strategies-plan-level-3-38-business) described an agreement to acquire flexPATH Strategies’ plan-level 3(38) business. It expected closing in the fourth quarter of 2026, subject to customary closing conditions.

The stated perimeter is the plan-level business. The release describes the transaction as extending custom portfolio capabilities and says Mesirow Fiduciary Solutions offers 3(38) custom portfolio construction and 3(21) and 3(38) investment lineup services. It does not establish that every flexPATH business, client or service was acquired.

For a transaction-status record, retain the August agreement date and the expected fourth-quarter closing separately. The captured document does not confirm completion. A later original closing notice would be needed to update that field. Describing the agreement in the past tense does not supply the missing closing evidence.

## Why platform asset figures cannot reveal the acquired book

The May announcement reported $115.2 billion in Mesirow outsourced fiduciary assets under management and advisement as of March 31. It expected approximately $138 billion after the LeafHouse transaction. The August release described approximately $164 billion in assets under management and advisement at Mesirow Fiduciary Solutions.

These figures have different observation contexts: a dated baseline, an expected post-transaction figure and a later platform description. They are not disclosed transaction prices. Subtracting them would not establish the assets of the flexPATH business. That calculation would need a reconciled account of changes between dates, consistent scope and the timing of asset inclusion; the releases do not provide that bridge.

The combined management-and-advisement label also needs to travel with each number. Replacing it with discretionary AUM would create a more specific claim than these documents support. The useful record preserves the issuer’s label and the relevant date, even if that prevents a neat league table.

## The practical research checklist

For an adviser or plan-service team evaluating a change of provider, this evidence supports a focused follow-up:

- Identify the acquired legal entity or specified business operation, including its operating name after closing.

- Separate the advisory acquisition from any related technology investment.

- Record agreement, expected closing and confirmed completion as different milestones.

- Request the applicable service agreement and current provider disclosures to establish which services a particular client receives.

- Preserve asset definitions rather than assigning a whole platform figure to the acquired business.

Those are research questions, not findings that every plan contract or mandate transferred automatically. The public announcements establish the two transaction perimeters and their stated stages; they do not provide a client-level transfer register.
