MS+PARTNERS’ inaugural buyout fund had raised close to €150 million toward a €300 million target when the manager [announced its first close on September 1](https://mustardseed.partners/mspartners-announces-first-close-of-inaugural-e300-million-pan-european-private-equity-fund/). The named institutional roster comes with one particularly concrete investor-side disclosure: COFIDES had announced a €30 million FIS investment with a Spanish-company growth purpose.

## The institutions behind the first close

The manager identifies the European Investment Fund as anchor and names COFIDES, BlackRock Private Equity Partners and C. Hoare & Co. among its institutional supporters. It also reports backing from entrepreneurial families and experienced investment professionals. The announcement supplies those relationships, rather than individual tickets or a common set of investor rights.

[COFIDES’s June 30 announcement](https://www.cofides.es/noticias/notas-de-prensa/cofides-invierte-30-millones-euros-fondo-mustard-seed-partners-fund-i) identifies a €30 million investment in Mustard Seed + Partners Fund I through the Fondo de Impacto Social, FIS. It says the investment will channel financing toward Spanish companies and support later-stage growth within Spain. FIS is a government-created public financial instrument; the disclosure describes a particular funding programme, rather than COFIDES’s entire investment activity.

That purpose adds a useful dimension for a buyout GP building a [first-fund investor map](https://altss.com/blog/how-emerging-managers-can-raise-their-first-fund-in-2025). The manager’s fund-wide geography is Western Europe, while the FIS announcement explains the Spanish-company objective behind one participant’s investment. It does not publish an executed geographic allocation covenant or establish that another manager can obtain the same funding. The €30 million is not an additional raise to stack on top of the first-close amount, nor evidence of cash already called or disbursed.

## The buyout proposition receiving that backing

MS+PARTNERS describes Fund I as a thematic lower-mid-market buyout strategy focused on profitable, founder-led businesses in Western Europe. Its stated enterprise-value range is €50 million to €500 million, across industrial technology and energy transition, circularity and resource efficiency, and human capital and essential services. Enterprise value describes the target businesses; it is not the fund’s equity ticket.

The first-close release names two completed fund investments: iLERNA, the Spanish vocational-education business acquired alongside Jacobs Capital, and Norway-based Maritime Robotics. Those examples connect the strategy to education and industrial technology businesses. They do not turn the manager’s broader historical portfolio into Fund I’s holdings or establish how the FIS investment is allocated between companies.

The debut-buyout description also needs its actual history. The manager reports a decade of venture investing and a venture fund. Alex Pitt and Henry Wigan’s [current biographies](https://mustardseed.partners/team/) describe earlier impact-venture businesses, while the [portfolio page](https://mustardseed.partners/portfolio/) displays Venture and Growth Equity categories. An inaugural dedicated buyout mandate is compatible with that experience. It is not a claim that this is a first-time investment firm or that prior venture results are this buyout fund’s performance.

## A first sale is a different milestone

The [older Form D for Mustard Seed Partners Fund I](https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/2047930/000094787124001006/xslFormDX01/primary_doc.xml) records a December 12, 2024 first sale and a fund entity formed in 2024. That record and the September 2026 first-close announcement describe different milestones. Neither supplies a cash-disbursement schedule, and the announcement does not establish an exact legal closing day. The manager’s expected year-end 2026 final close remains an expectation.
