Coverage period: 2026-07-01 through 2026-09-30. Publication date: October 15, 2026.

Q3 AI infrastructure announcements describe several different kinds of capital. NVIDIA's proposed financing platforms aim to mobilize third-party money over time. Its financial report separately identifies existing investments and conditional credit support. OpenAI's PORTS-Pike announcement describes contracted capacity that will become available in phases. These records do not support a single total of capital already raised or infrastructure already operating.

This research compares selected July and August records within calendar Q3 2026, with a project-site observation checked on October 15. It answers a practical institutional question: which figure measures an investment, which describes a financing ambition, and which depends on future delivery? It is not a census of all AI infrastructure financing during the quarter.

## July 26: a financial snapshot with a defined scope

NVIDIA's fiscal second-quarter Form 10-Q covers the period ended July 26, 2026. Note 6 reports $3.3 billion of infrastructure-financier investments accounted for under the equity method at that date. For the equity-method investments classified as variable-interest entities, it reports maximum loss exposure of $4.7 billion, including carrying values and future committed amounts.

The amounts have different definitions. The exposure measure includes components already represented by carrying values; adding it to the investment figure would not produce new fundraising. The report's quarter-end measurements should also remain separate from the August developments described elsewhere in the same document.

## August 10: proposed platforms and third-party capital

NVIDIA announced partnerships with Apollo, BlackRock, Blackstone, Brookfield, Goldman Sachs and KKR on August 10. The stated objective was to establish independent compute-financing platforms and mobilize more than $500 billion of third-party capital over time.

The release describes signed memorandums of understanding and says the partnerships remain subject to final agreements. That is the evidence available in the announcement. It establishes a financing initiative and its ambition; it does not establish that the headline amount had been subscribed, funded or deployed on August 10.

For an institutional research record, retain the prospective capital providers, agreement stage and time horizon together. A later definitive agreement or financing close would update the initiative's status. It would not turn the original announcement into an additional pool of capital to count again.

## August: conditional support for PORTS-Pike

The 10-Q separately describes August guarantees involving SB Energy affiliates and an OpenAI affiliate at the PORTS Technology Campus in Pike County, Ohio. The guarantees are capped at $105 billion and relate to approximately 4.25 gigawatts of IT load.

NVIDIA says the guarantees generally become effective when the applicable leases commence, subject to conditions including readiness for service. The corresponding amounts increase as construction phases are completed; payment obligations are triggered by specified tenant defaults. The support covers defined portions of lease and power payments, rather than the full site cost or every tenant obligation.

A guarantee ceiling should therefore remain labelled as conditional credit support. Treating it as an equity investment or a cash amount already spent would change what the source reports. This record also does not establish the likelihood of a default or a payment under the guarantee.

## August 17: capacity contracted, delivery still phased

OpenAI announced an agreement to secure approximately 8 gigawatts-IT at PORTS-Pike on August 17. It says SB Energy will build, own and operate the data center under a 20-year lease, delivering capacity over time. OpenAI says it will begin paying only as completed capacity becomes available for lease.

The announcement expects the first 800 megawatts to become available in 2028 and identifies further infrastructure, permitting, environmental-review and financing dependencies. The project's own website, checked on October 15, also describes a first 800 MW phase and capacity expected to come online beginning in 2028. The website is undated, so its current wording should not be assigned a Q3 publication date.

The approximately 8 gigawatts-IT in the customer agreement and approximately 4.25 gigawatts of IT load in the disclosed guarantee describe different scopes. They should remain separate fields. Neither figure establishes operating capacity on the announcement date.

## What the comparison adds

The useful research output is a set of defined records, rather than a larger headline sum. Keep the measurement date, named parties, financial instrument, amount, capacity unit and conditions beside each other. Preserve a separate delivery milestone for capacity that has not yet become available.

This makes the next evidence request specific: a definitive financing agreement, a dated funding disclosure, confirmation of lease commencement or a verified ready-for-service milestone. Public records carry source-specific dates where available. No population-wide measured refresh cadence or universal verification deadline is established here. Page modified, source captured, fact observed, entity verified and aggregate measured describe different events. Check the date attached to the relevant claim; a missing verification date means unknown. Stored source history does not establish a customer-facing historical-analysis interface.
