# What Wealth Enhancement’s RWA agreement adds to Reserve

RWA’s planned move separates family-office trust, estate and tax services from Private Wealth adviser teams. How the acquired business would operate.

Wealth Enhancement’s agreement to acquire RWA Wealth Partners would bring two different client-service businesses into its platform. RWA Family Office would strengthen Reserve by Wealth Enhancement with trust, estate and tax capabilities. RWA Private Wealth would operate as adviser teams. The distinction explains more about the proposed combination than RWA’s approximately $22.46 billion in client assets alone.

The [September 30 announcement](https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/wealth-enhancement-expands-family-office-capabilities-through-reserve-by-wealth-enhancement-and-partnership-with-rwa-wealth-partners-302894438.html) expected the acquisition to close in the fourth quarter and represent an exit for Summit Partners. It describes the intended operating arrangement, rather than a completed transfer or subsequent integration.

## An operating model around complex family wealth

RWA Family Office’s specified capabilities include trust administration, professional trustee services, estate-planning coordination and estate settlement. Personal and fiduciary tax planning and preparation support that work, alongside estate and gift tax analysis and planning around liquidity events.

Those services address work that continues beyond an investment recommendation. A family preparing for a business sale may need to coordinate its liquidity, tax, gifting and investment decisions; a multigenerational trust brings administration and beneficiary needs alongside portfolio oversight. The release describes both situations. Acquiring the people and operating model to connect those activities is a different proposition from adding investment portfolios alone.

The Family Office includes advisers and portfolio managers working with financial planners, fiduciary, tax and trust professionals, supported by client officers and administrators. Its broader service range therefore includes investment work. The announced distinction is between two service models within RWA, rather than between an investment business and a wholly non-advisory family office.

Reserve is positioned for complex family needs, generally involving $25 million or more in investable assets. RWA would add particular depth in trusts, estates and family governance to that offering. The stated client profile helps explain why execution matters: the investment portfolio sits within a wider set of entities, obligations and decisions that must be coordinated.

## Private Wealth takes a separate route

RWA’s Private Wealth business serves high-net-worth individuals and families through personalized investment management and comprehensive financial planning, including integrated tax and estate planning. Its teams would operate at Wealth Enhancement, while the Family Office would strengthen Reserve. The release also provides for continuing leadership of the Family Office upon closing.

There is service overlap, especially in tax and estate planning. The practical difference is the disclosed depth of the Family Office’s trust, estate-settlement and administrative work, and its destination within the buyer’s offering. A wealth-platform analyst can assess that capability directly instead of treating every client relationship as the same acquired advisory service.

## The asset figures describe different scopes

Wealth Enhancement and its registered adviser WEAS reported $164.6 billion in client assets at August 31, including $5.5 billion in brokerage assets with WEBS. RWA’s approximately $22.46 billion was measured at June 30. The release’s prospective total of more than $187.1 billion covers client advisory, trust and brokerage assets, including $8.5 billion with Advisory Solutions Group.

These are dated business-scale measures, not a purchase price or a disclosed Reserve asset balance. The release does not allocate RWA’s client assets between Family Office and Private Wealth, or quantify the acquired service lines’ revenue and fees.

Altss’s [HBK and H.I.G. analysis](https://altss.com/blog/hbk-hig-investment-cpa-control-wealth-advisory) describes a separate accounting-and-wealth arrangement with specified providers. RWA adds a different commercial question: how an established family-office operating model would fit inside a national wealth platform. The acquisition’s announced contribution is the combination of ongoing investment relationships with trust, tax and estate implementation—not a newly disclosed pool of capital for external funds.
