CH Foundation

Christine DeVitt established the CH Foundation in 1969 using wealth inherited from the Mallet Ranch. The ranch is a historic cattle operation with significant landholdings across four West Texas counties, and its associated oil and gas royalties continue to generate revenue for the foundation's endowment and grantmaking budget.

The foundation's grantmaking is heavily concentrated in Lubbock, Texas, with very limited activity elsewhere. Its primary partners are Texas Tech University and the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. Organizations seeking funding for projects outside the Lubbock area are unlikely to find alignment with the foundation's stated geographic focus.

Mallet Ranch is the legacy operating asset from which the foundation's wealth originates. The ranch comprises land in Hockley, Terry, Cochran, and Yoakum Counties, Texas, and its mineral estate produces oil and gas royalties. The foundation continues to derive financial support from these holdings, creating an enduring link between agricultural operations and institutional philanthropy.

Both foundations were established by sisters from the DeVitt family. Christine DeVitt founded the CH Foundation, while her sister Helen DeVitt Jones founded the Helen Jones Foundation. They operate as separate philanthropic entities with distinct grantmaking activities, though both share roots in the family's ranching wealth and a commitment to the Lubbock region.

The foundation is governed by a small board of trustees. Mark Griffin, a Lubbock-based business leader and President of The Griffin Companies, serves as a trustee and is a known steward of the foundation's operational and investment decisions. The foundation maintains a lean governance structure consistent with a private foundation of its size.
