Claflin University is a private historically black liberal arts college located in Orangeburg, South Carolina. Founded in 1869, it holds the distinction of being the first Historically Black College or University (HBCU) in South Carolina and the first institution in the state to admit all students regardless of gender, ethnic origin, race, or religion.
