The Colgate University Endowment was established alongside the university in 1819 to fund its academic mission indefinitely. Joseph Hope leads the Investment Office, with Brendt Simpson serving as Investment Director. The endowment operates as part of the 501(c)(3) university entity. Asset allocation includes commitments to buyout, distressed debt, early-stage venture, and expansion strategies. Confirmed limited partner positions include Redpoint Ventures, Genstar Capital, Blackstone, and Baker Capital. Geographic exposure centers on the United States with additional global holdings through alternative investment vehicles. Direct real estate ownership covers mixed-use, commercial, and residential properties in Hamilton, New York, managed via Hamilton Initiative, LLC, Hamilton Hotel, LLC, and Housing Initiative, LLC.
