## Questions

### Is the Evangelical Lutheran Foundation a grant-making foundation or an active investment manager?

ELFEC operates primarily as an investment manager for the Eastern Synod's endowment, holding and overseeing direct assets including commercial and mixed-use real estate. Its philanthropic distributions are channeled through Charitus, a related entity, rather than made directly from the investment portfolio. This separates the investment office function from the grant-making process.

### What is the relationship between ELFEC and Charitus?

Charitus is the philanthropic distribution arm affiliated with ELFEC. While ELFEC manages the investment portfolio and endowment assets of the Eastern Synod, Charitus handles the outflow of funds to charitable causes and church ministries. Lee Gould serves as Executive Director of both entities, reflecting a shared leadership structure.
