The Fidelity UK Foundation was established in 1988. Edward C. Johnson II founded the broader Fidelity philanthropic structure through his creation of Fidelity Investments. The UK entity functions separately from the US Fidelity Foundation, which dates to 1965. The foundations pursue grant-making alongside a managed investment portfolio. The UK portfolio excludes direct holdings in FIL and ERS and seeks a 4 percent real return. Confirmed holdings include the Boston Seaport Complex and the Brookfield Arts Foundation collection valued at $166 million. Geographic reach centers on the United Kingdom for grants and the United States for certain real assets and art holdings. The combined entities report 468 million USD in assets. Additional vehicles include the Edward C. Johnson Fund and Brookfield Arts Foundation. Peter Goldsbrough serves as chair. In October 2023 the UK foundation sponsored the Royal Academy of Arts Supporters Event. The structure separates grant-making operations from the Johnson family operating businesses while maintaining ownership ties to FMR LLC and FIL Limited through dedicated holding entities.
