FISA Foundation was established in 1911 in Pittsburgh and remains one of the region's oldest charitable endowments. It traces its roots to early 20th-century philanthropy and today operates from downtown Pittsburgh under Executive Director Kristy Trautmann, who also serves on the Finance Committee of Grantmakers of Western Pennsylvania. FISA deploys capital through a hybrid investment portfolio that includes an equity hedge fund allocation alongside direct investments spanning buyout, distressed debt, early-stage venture, mezzanine, and secondaries strategies. The portfolio supports a grantmaking program focused on nonprofits in southwestern Pennsylvania, with frequent co-funding partnerships involving The Heinz Endowments and The Pittsburgh Foundation on initiatives such as RACE + DISABILITY. FISA also holds an endowed chair at the University of Pittsburgh — the FISA Foundation–Paralyzed Veterans of America Distinguished Professor. The foundation maintains a small professional footprint with no publicly disclosed staff count beyond its executive director. FISA does not operate separate philanthropic structures; the foundation itself is the primary vehicle for charitable disbursement.
