Harvard Management Company (HMC)

Harvard Management Company, Inc. (HMC) is a nonprofit, wholly owned subsidiary of Harvard University formed in 1974 to manage the University’s endowment and related financial assets (per HMC About page). Its singular mission is to generate strong long-term investment returns that help ensure Harvard has the resources to maintain and expand leadership in education and research for future generations. As of June 30, 2025, the endowment was valued at $56.9 billion after generating an 11.9% return in fiscal year 2025 (per HMC Partners & Performance page and FY2025 CEO letter). Distributions from the endowment contributed nearly 40% of the University’s operating revenue in FY2025; HMC has distributed more than $46 billion to Harvard since its founding (per HMC website). HMC employs a generalist investment model seeking attractive risk-adjusted returns through partnerships with more than 100 external managers across private equity, hedge funds, public equities, real assets, and other strategies. Headquartered at 600 Atlantic Avenue in Boston, Massachusetts, HMC is governed by a Board of Directors elected by the President and Fellows of Harvard College, including ex officio University leaders. Current executive leadership includes CEO N.P. “Narv” Narvekar (joined 2016), CIO Rick Slocum, and COO Sanjeev Daga (per HMC About page). The firm maintains a long-term focus and has committed to a path toward net-zero portfolio emissions by 2050.
