HitecVision was founded in Stavanger in 1985 by Ole Ertvaag, emerging from an oilfield technology consultancy to become a dedicated energy investor. The firm grew alongside Norway's offshore petroleum industry, reinvesting its early advisory cash flows into equity positions in oilfield services companies. That shift from consulting to committing its own capital alongside institutional LPs created a firm with deep operational roots in the energy service and infrastructure sectors rather than a generalist private equity house.
