Industrifonden

Industrifonden was created in 1979 when the Swedish government established it as a standalone foundation. Peter Wolpert leads the organization as CEO while Birgitta Stymne Göransson serves as chair. The structure separates the foundation from direct state control while retaining its original mandate to support industrial innovation. The foundation targets early-stage investments from seed through Series A. It commits capital across venture, biotechnology, software, and industrial technology. Confirmed holdings include Pixelgen Technologies, Hopsworks, EnginZyme, and Vesiro. All activity remains concentrated in Sweden with limited exposure to other Nordic markets through co-investments. Industrifonden maintains a team of 25 professionals at its Stockholm headquarters. It holds membership in Invest Europe and the Swedish Private Equity & Venture Capital Association. The foundation sponsored its own Venture Summit in December 2023 to showcase portfolio companies. Adjacent vehicles include the Stiftelsen Industrifonden entity that formalizes its grant and investment activities. The foundation operates under a statutory mandate that requires reinvestment of returns into new Swedish ventures. This creates a perpetual capital base distinct from time-limited funds. Governance ties to the original government charter limit external LP participation and enforce a domestic focus.
