KnowBe4 Ventures

KnowBe4 Ventures is the corporate venture capital arm of KnowBe4, the publicly traded (now privately held under Vista Equity Partners) security awareness training company founded by Stu Sjouwerman. It invests directly from the parent's balance sheet and uses corporate strategic assets — primarily the customer distribution channel — to accelerate portfolio company growth, rather than operating as an independent fund with external limited partners.

The firm focuses on early-stage investments, primarily pre-Series A and Series A rounds. It takes minority equity positions in cybersecurity and adjacent enterprise software startups where KnowBe4's distribution network can provide a meaningful go-to-market advantage.

Vista Equity Partners acquired KnowBe4 in an all-cash transaction valued at $4.6 billion, which closed in February 2023. The venture arm has continued operations post-acquisition, and Vista has not announced any changes to its mandate or investment strategy publicly.

KnowBe4 Ventures concentrates on cybersecurity, AI/ML for security, and enterprise software. It stays away from sectors unrelated to its parent's core competency — it does not invest in consumer apps, hardware, biotech, or deep tech outside the security ecosystem where it cannot provide distribution leverage.

KnowBe4 Ventures operates as a direct investor, taking equity stakes in individual startups. There is no public record of the firm participating as a limited partner in other venture capital funds. Its model is built entirely on direct, strategic minority investments.
