Kontora Family Office began operations in 2006 under Stephan Buchwald and Dr. Patrick Maurenbrecher. The founders built the firm to serve entrepreneurial families and foundations with strategic asset allocation and manager selection. It maintains an evergreen structure focused on long-term wealth stewardship rather than product distribution. The firm allocates across private equity, real estate, infrastructure, private credit and hedge funds. It executes through direct co-investments, SPVs and fund commitments. Confirmed holdings include Avara Residential Fund II in Finland and Seefried Industrial Properties in the United States. Additional exposure spans container leasing globally, forestry and agricultural land, and renewable energy projects in Germany. The geographic footprint covers Europe, North America and Asia. Kontora employs investment and administration specialists without a disclosed headcount. It maintains membership in VUFO, VUV and Die Familienunternehmer. In March 2025 AlTi Global acquired the firm to expand its European platform. The transaction was backed by Allianz X as a strategic investor in AlTi. Kontora also provides advisory services to the Joachim Herz Stiftung. The acquisition by AlTi Global creates a hybrid structure that combines Kontora's independent German advisory practice with AlTi's broader international network. This arrangement preserves local decision-making while adding access to cross-border co-investment opportunities and institutional reporting standards.
