Daniel Lanigan founded Lord Hobo Brewing Company in 2015, building on the cult following of his Cambridge bar, Lord Hobo. The brewery opened a 47,000-square-foot production facility in Woburn, Massachusetts, and quickly claimed shelf space across the Northeast. Early distribution partners carried its flagship IPAs into Massachusetts, New York, and New Jersey, driving rapid volume growth. The brewery deployed capital into a high-volume production model centered on hazy and New England IPAs—Boom Sauce, Glorious, and Juice Lord anchored the portfolio. Distribution reached over a dozen states, and contract brewing agreements supplemented in-house capacity. The strategy mirrored the regional craft playbook: wide retail footprint, taproom as brand hub, and an early pivot toward direct-to-consumer sales via a Woburn-based beer garden. By 2019, Lord Hobo operated its Woburn taproom and began scouting additional locations. The pandemic compressed on-premise revenue and accelerated off-premise competition. In 2022, the company sold its Woburn production facility and relocated headquarters to Austin, Texas (per Brewbound, July 2022). The restructuring included closing the original Cambridge bar and pausing distribution outside Massachusetts while opening a new taproom in Austin. Lord Hobo's shift from production brewery to taproom operator distinguishes it from peers that doubled down on regional distribution or sold to strategic buyers. The Austin relocation positions the brand in a growing craft market without the legacy cost structure of a New England production plant. The company now functions as a bicoastal hospitality play—retaining its brand IP and Massachusetts retail presence while building a new Austin venue.
