Mercersburg Academy

Mercersburg Academy was established in 1893 as an independent coeducational college-preparatory boarding and day school. Its endowment receives support from alumni, parents, and foundations including the Deborah Joy Simon Foundation and the Lenfest Foundation. The Regents of the Mercersburg College entity governs both the school and the endowment. The endowment pursues a diversified strategy that includes private equity, real estate, distressed and turnaround situations, and early-stage venture commitments. Confirmed positions include an alternative investment portfolio and a holding through 226 Capital. Geographic exposure covers North America, Europe, Asia, and South America. The portfolio also incorporates philanthropic and mission-related investments alongside traditional asset classes. The school employs 153 professionals and maintains a 300-acre campus with facilities such as the Burgin Center for the Arts and the Goldthorpe Athletic Complex. Adjacent vehicles include the Deborah Joy Simon Foundation and the Lenfest Foundation. February 2025: Participated as speaker at Mexico PE Day discussing private equity strategies and endowment management. Governance occurs through the Board of Regents and a dedicated Investment Committee that includes members with operating experience at firms such as PC Capital and prior Vanguard affiliation. This structure separates school operations from investment decisions while linking both to the same 501(c)(3) entity.
