The team originates through the division's scientific network, academic partnerships, and the pipeline of its six species-specific business units. Because Merck Animal Health already has commercial operations in more than 50 countries, portfolio candidates often surface from veterinarians, farmers, or regional distributors who have tested a technology in the field. That real-world evidence, coupled with Merck's internal R&D and regulatory-affairs capability, allows the venture arm to diligence and price rounds faster than a stand-alone financial VC.

It is a corporate venture arm investing off Merck Animal Health's own balance sheet. There are no outside limited partners, and capital is evergreen — returns recycle back to the parent rather than to a closed-end fund. This single-LP structure means the venture team can hold positions through regulatory approval and commercial launch without needing to exit on a fixed time horizon.

The mandate spans all six species platforms of the parent organization: companion animal, equine, swine, ruminants, poultry, and aqua. Within those platforms, the venture looks for novel vaccines, next-generation parasiticides, digital-animal-health tools, and diagnostics. The parent's own recent pipeline — BRAVECTO QUANTUM for dogs, BOVILIS NASALGEN-C for calves, and ISKNV vaccines for tilapia — provides a good proxy for the technical scope that interests the venture team.
