Miami University was chartered in 1809 in Oxford, Ohio. The endowment supports university activities through two pools: the Miami University Endowment and Foundation, and university non-endowment assets. The Miami University Foundation, established in 1948, serves as the primary fundraising and investment management arm. The endowment allocates across private equity, real estate, commodities, and public equities. Target private equity exposure stands at 25 percent. Confirmed holdings include positions in Strategic Private Equity Fund V, Cintrifuse Fund III, and multiple credit managers such as Ellington Capital Management and GoldenTree Asset Management. Geographic exposure centers on North America with additional real estate and commodity holdings globally. The Pooled Investment Fund combines university and foundation assets. The endowment reports an estimated value near 813 million USD in internal records. Additional offices include regional campuses in Hamilton and Middletown, Ohio, plus the John E. Dolibois European Center in Luxembourg. The university maintains membership in NACUBO and the Association of Governing Boards of Universities and Colleges. In May 2024 the university sponsored the MIAMI Women Leadership Symposium in Oxford. The endowment outsources investment management to Strategic Investment Group under an OCIO mandate established in 2018. This arrangement separates day-to-day portfolio decisions from the university's board and investment subcommittee while retaining oversight through the foundation structure.
