NVenture Capital

NVenture Capital is a wholly owned subsidiary of NEC Capital Solutions, a publicly listed Japanese financial services and leasing company. The venture arm was carved out in December 2021 to run startup investments independently of the parent's balance sheet and credit operations, while still leveraging NEC Capital Solutions' commercial network and subsidiary Risa Partners for portfolio support.

Investment decisions are led by Managing Partner Kazuo Kunieda, who serves on every deal committee. Director Takashi Arai covers the financial dimension, and Advisor Masahiro Annaka contributes product and operating expertise. The rest of the 9-person team, drawn from engineering, sales, and banking backgrounds, supports sourcing and hands-on portfolio work.

The firm invests broadly from seed through later-stage pre-IPO rounds. Its active portfolio tilts heavily toward deep tech, robotics, digital health, AI, and enterprise SaaS, with recent frontrunners including Space BD in space infrastructure and WHILL in personal mobility. The firm maintains a domestic focus but has backed companies with regional Asian operations, such as Taiwan's FunNow.

NVenture Capital invests primarily through its own managed venture capital funds, including several value co-creation vehicles and the newly announced Workforce Innovation Fund 1. These funds make direct equity and equity-linked investments in startup companies; the firm does not present itself as a fund-of-funds allocator to external GPs.

The firm reports ¥7.8 billion under management and 37 active portfolio companies as of early 2026. It has produced four IPOs — including the recently listed AI-interfaces company Pixie Dust Technologies — and four M&A exits, ranging from fintech to digital health.

NVenture co-invests alongside other Japanese and international venture firms, though specific GP relationships are not publicly catalogued. Its parent's extensive corporate finance relationships and the team's background in structured finance and corporate advisory suggest a willingness to syndicate when a round requires larger ticket sizes or complementary sector expertise.

The firm does not operate a separate philanthropic foundation. Its investment thesis explicitly targets 'Creating Shared Value' through startups addressing global societal challenges — spanning renewable energy, regional revitalization, real estate, PFI, and business succession — but this mandate resides within the for-profit venture funds and the parent group's broader commercial activity.
