The wealth originates from Sport Obermeyer, the ski-apparel company founded in 1947 by Klaus Obermeyer. A German aeronautical engineer who emigrated to Aspen, Klaus Obermeyer invented the down parka and built a company that became an enduring brand in the winter-sports industry.
