Rees-Jones Foundation

The wealth originates from Chief Oil & Gas, the Dallas-based exploration and production company founded by Trevor Rees-Jones. Chief Oil & Gas assembled a dominant acreage position in the Barnett Shale natural gas play and sold the bulk of its assets in a multi-billion-dollar transaction with Devon Energy and other buyers, generating the liquidity that now funds both the foundation and the family's broader investment portfolio.

The foundation concentrates its grantmaking on three areas: children's health, human services, and education. The geographic focus is overwhelmingly Dallas-Fort Worth. Signature commitments include a $50 million gift to establish the Rees-Jones Center for Foster Care Excellence at Children's Health in Dallas.
