Reno Seed Fund

The fund sources primarily through the Northern Nevada entrepreneurial ecosystem, with deep ties to the University of Nevada, Reno and the Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada (EDAWN). Former EDAWN CEO Michael Kazmierzki and current City of Reno Revitalization Manager Bryan McArdle sit on the advisory board, which creates a direct pipeline into local startup activity. The firm also co-invests alongside syndication partners outside Nevada.

It behaves like both. The firm has a formal investment committee, a dedicated screening process, and deploys significant seed checks — hallmarks of an institutional seed fund. But its operational model also draws on a broader network of Limited Partners and advisory board members who actively consult for portfolio companies, giving it the hands-on, community-driven feel of a curated angel syndicate.

Several advisory board members hold formal ties to UNR — Mick Hitchcock serves on the UNR Foundation Board and advisory councils for the College of Science and College of Business, while Bryan McArdle is President-elect of the UNR Alumni Association. Leonard Lafrance, another advisory board member, sits on UNR and Desert Research Institute advisory boards, giving the fund strong visibility into university spinouts and faculty-founded ventures.

The firm reports at least one confirmed exit: EmVenio Research, a decentralized clinical trials network, was acquired by PCM Trials. Managing Partner Gene Wong also brings personal experience from startups that achieved three IPOs over his career as an angel investor. The fund's performance track record beyond these data points has not been publicly disclosed.
