Rob Thielen, the founder and managing partner, serves as the sole investment committee member. He holds full discretion over origination, diligence, structuring, and portfolio governance. Prior to founding Riverdam in 2013, Thielen was a partner at Waterland Private Equity, where he focused on Benelux mid-market buyouts.

Thielen relies on a proprietary network built during his tenure at Waterland Private Equity, combined with direct outreach to founders, family-business intermediaries, and corporate carve-out desks in the Benelux and DACH regions. The firm does not participate in broad auction processes and targets sub-institutional opportunities that fall below the minimum equity check of larger regional funds.

Riverdam exclusively executes direct control buyouts, management buy-ins, and growth equity investments. It does not commit to third-party private equity funds as a limited partner and does not syndicate its own deals to outside co-investors beyond its existing capital base.

Riverdam has publicly avoided sectors requiring heavy regulatory licensing, including financial services, insurance underwriting, and primary pharmaceutical development. It also does not invest in real estate, natural resources, or infrastructure.

There is no formal or legal relationship. Founder Rob Thielen was previously a partner at Waterland Private Equity, but Riverdam is an entirely independent firm with a distinct strategy targeting smaller transactions and operating on a permanent-capital model rather than closed-end institutional funds.
