Téthys was established in 2016 by Françoise Bettencourt Meyers and her husband Jean-Pierre Meyers. The firm serves as the primary vehicle for the Bettencourt family's investment activities outside their controlling stake in L'Oréal. Jean-Victor Meyers and Nicolas Meyers sit on the board and maintain operational ties to the cosmetics group. The office allocates across private equity, real estate and public markets. It executes buyouts and late-stage direct co-investments, often alongside external partners. Confirmed holdings include a position in Filecoin and participation in The Row alongside Mousse Investments. A separate co-investment with GIC targeted Septeo. Activity spans Europe, North America and Africa. Additional exposure covers EdTech, LegalTech and ClimateTech through both direct and fund vehicles. In 2021 the family pledged support for the Notre Dame de Paris restoration through the Fondation Bettencourt Schueller.
