TailorCare is an operating company backed by venture capital, not an investment firm. Capital allocation and strategic decisions are led by CEO and co-founder Rachel Winokur, with board representation from lead investors including a16z, Norwest Venture Partners, and Accel. The company raised its Series B in September 2023.

TailorCare enters into value-based contracts — shared savings and bundled payments — with health plans and risk-bearing providers, taking financial risk on the total cost of musculoskeletal episodes. Traditional navigation companies charge per-member-per-month or case-management fees and do not share in the economic outcomes of their recommendations. This structural difference aligns TailorCare's revenue directly with clinical quality and cost reduction.

The company focuses on musculoskeletal conditions including back, neck, knee, hip, and shoulder pain — the highest-volume, highest-cost non-oncology episodes for commercial payors. Its platform covers the full clinical journey from initial assessment through conservative treatment, imaging, injections, physical therapy, and surgery when clinically necessary.

TailorCare operates as a navigation and clinical-intake layer rather than a direct provider of care. Its team includes clinical navigators and Chief Clinical Officer Dr. Alex Wiggins, but the actual delivery of physical therapy, injections, and surgery occurs through a network of contracted providers. This capitated-navigation structure is architecturally different from a full-stack medical group.

Patients are routed to TailorCare through contracted health plans and risk-bearing provider organizations — primarily commercial insurers, Medicare Advantage plans, and Medicaid managed-care organizations. When a member presents with MSK symptoms, the payor directs them to TailorCare for clinical assessment and episode management, creating a captive referral funnel that bypasses traditional direct-to-consumer patient acquisition costs.
