Much of the pipeline comes from reverse inquiry — companies seeking a visible, strategic investor that will hold rather than trade the position.

ThreeD is structured as an investment issuer — a publicly traded company that invests its own balance sheet into early-stage and junior public equities. It does not manage third-party committed capital in a traditional limited partner fund. Investors gain exposure by purchasing ThreeD shares on the Canadian Securities Exchange, making the stock itself a liquid proxy for an otherwise illiquid portfolio.

The firm invests across critical minerals, blockchain infrastructure, enterprise software, AI/ML, digital health, and industrial technology. Its historical roots are in junior mining and resources, and that sector expertise remains central to its mandate alongside a growing technology allocation.

Because ThreeD is a public company, its own shares trade daily, but the underlying portfolio contains both liquid public equities and private placements that are revalued periodically. Pinetree Capital, which Inwentash led until 2014, employed a similar public-issuer model focused heavily on junior mining. ThreeD continues that approach but broadened the mandate into blockchain and disruptive technology. The newer entity operates with a leaner cost structure and a portfolio composition that reflects the maturation of Canadian tech and digital asset markets.
