The partnership elected to wind down in 2008 and split into two successor firms — Originate Ventures, which continued a Pennsylvania-focused strategy, and Infield Capital, which took over managing the remaining legacy portfolio. The decision reflected an orderly return of capital to limited partners rather than pursuing a fundraise that might compromise alignment.

CDNow, the pioneering online music retailer, was one of the firm's highest-profile early investments. CDNow went public in 1998 and was later acquired by Bertelsmann in a transaction that validated internet-commerce venture returns during the dot-com era.

The firm was originally established as an affiliate of the University City Science Center, a Philadelphia-based research park and commercialization hub that housed 26 academic and medical institutions. This relationship gave TL Ventures privileged access to university spin-out companies and faculty-founded technology startups throughout the Mid-Atlantic.

The investment committee was anchored by Robert Keith, the firm's co-founder and managing partner, along with Gary Anderson, who served as a managing director. The partnership made concentrated, consensus-driven early-stage technology investments from the Wayne, Pennsylvania headquarters.

TL Ventures was an early-stage investor, typically serving as a seed or Series A lead for technology companies. The firm focused on first institutional checks for Mid-Atlantic and East Coast startups, with an emphasis on enterprise software, digital health, and communications technology.
