Investment decisions sit with the senior partner group, which has historically been led by founders Juha Suvitie and Ilkka Tuominen. The partnership operates a flat structure where all active partners participate in investment committees and board-level strategy for every portfolio company. Vaaka relies on a four-decade network within the Finnish and Baltic business communities, where many transactions originate from founder-owners seeking a first institutional partner. Vaaka has not historically invested in real estate, infrastructure, natural resources, commodities, or financial services. The firm's sector concentration in enterprise software, industrial technology, healthcare services, and business services represents a deliberate boundary that has held across multiple fund cycles.

Vaaka invests exclusively through direct control and growth equity positions; it does not operate as a fund-of-funds and does not make LP commitments to other private equity managers. Every investment is made directly at the company level.

Vaaka is an independent partnership owned by its senior partners. It is not affiliated with any bank, insurance company, or government entity, distinguishing it from many other established Nordic private equity firms that originated within larger financial groups.

The firm took Musti Group, a Nordic pet care retail chain, public on the Nasdaq Helsinki stock exchange in 2020 after building the business through add-on acquisitions and operational expansion. That listing marked one of the most prominent Finnish consumer IPOs of the year (per the firm's official communications).
