Frequently asked questions
Is PlanGrid still available as a standalone product?
No. PlanGrid is no longer available for purchase by net-new customers. Autodesk has folded PlanGrid's features into Autodesk Build, which launched in February 2021. Existing customers can still access their PlanGrid projects through the PlanGrid Build mobile app on iOS and Android, and a Windows desktop app exists for version 10 or higher. New users are routed directly to Autodesk Build trials.
What happened to PlanGrid after the Autodesk acquisition?
Autodesk acquired PlanGrid in 2018 for $875 million. In November 2019, Autodesk announced Autodesk Construction Cloud, which unified PlanGrid with BIM 360, BuildingConnected, Assemble, and later Pype and ProEst. In February 2021, Autodesk Build launched as the combined product, bringing what Autodesk describes as the best of PlanGrid and BIM 360 into a single construction management platform.
What was PlanGrid's core product before the acquisition?
PlanGrid provided cloud-based construction productivity software that gave general contractors, subcontractors, and owners real-time mobile access to project plans, issues tracking, photos, RFIs, submittals, and forms. It was designed to work on iOS and Android devices on job sites without continuous internet connectivity, synchronizing data when a connection became available.
How is PlanGrid Build different from the original PlanGrid app?
PlanGrid Build is the rebranded mobile application that gives existing PlanGrid users access to their projects within the Autodesk Build platform. It includes the original PlanGrid feature set for sheet viewing, issues, and field management, while also connecting to new Autodesk Build capabilities such as meeting minutes, schedule tools, asset and model-based tracking, cost controls with budget and change orders, and machine-learning-based risk analysis, according to Autodesk's product pages.
Who were PlanGrid's typical customers?
PlanGrid was adopted primarily by general contractors, specialty subcontractors, and project owners in commercial, infrastructure, and multifamily construction. Its bottom-up distribution model meant individual superintendents and project engineers often brought it onto job sites before the firms standardized on it organization-wide.
