KPS acquired AIS as part of a carve-out from TransDigm Group, merging it with Gamesman and LRE Medical to form AIS Global. TransDigm Group bought Esterline in March 2019, then sold the non-aerospace AIS assets to KPS in September 2019, effectively returning the Coeur d'Alene operation to its legacy Advanced Input Systems name.
