Alliance was taken private in 2016 by Tahoe Investment Group, a Chinese conglomerate, in partnership with Fujian Thai Hot Investment. The deal had an enterprise value of approximately $820 million. The firm previously traded on the NYSE under the ticker AIQ.

Alliance enters into long-term contracts with hospitals and health systems to manage their imaging services. This ranges from staffing and operating in-house hospital imaging departments to building standalone outpatient imaging centers in joint ventures. The firm also deploys mobile imaging units that serve multiple hospital sites within a region.

Alliance sold its radiation oncology division in 2021. The divestiture narrowed the firm's strategic focus to diagnostic imaging partnerships. The oncology assets represented a separate clinical and reimbursement pathway from the core radiology operation.

Alliance owns and maintains the physical imaging equipment — MRI, CT, and PET/CT scanners — as well as the fleet of mobile imaging units that transport equipment between sites. It employs the radiology technologists who operate the machines. Teleradiology firms, by contrast, read images remotely and own neither the hardware nor the clinical site staff.

The firm operates in 45 US states through a combination of fixed-center partnerships and mobile imaging routes. Its direct counterparties include over 1,000 hospitals and health systems, giving it a broad but exclusively domestic geographic footprint.
