The Foundation's structure as a Type I Supporting Organization ties its governance to the Community Foundation while preserving a focused mission: funding teaching and learning opportunities that fall outside the normal school budget. Its board includes the Appleton Education Association president as an ex-officio member, embedding the school district's priorities directly into grant decisions. AEF deploys capital exclusively through small-scale, classroom-level grants to educators within the Appleton Area School District. Its portfolio of supported projects spans literacy initiatives, STEM enrichment, arts programming, and experiential learning — all teacher-conceived and evaluated.
