Arle Capital Partners

Arle Capital Partners is the direct successor firm to Candover Partners, the private equity arm of the listed UK investment trust Candover Investments plc. When Candover Investments suspended new commitments during the 2008 financial crisis, the buyout team — led by John Arney and Jeremy Green — negotiated a spinout in 2011, taking over management of the existing €3bn 2008 fund and its portfolio companies.

Arle's primary activity in recent years has been managing the realisation of its legacy Candover portfolio. While the firm sought to raise a successor fund in the mid-2010s to write new mid-market European buyouts, it has not publicly closed a flagship fund under the Arle brand. The investment posture is therefore best understood as portfolio management and harvesting, rather than active new deployment.

When targeting new investments, Arle focused on control buyouts of European mid-market companies in the industrial, energy services, business services, and healthcare sectors. The strategy mirrored the Candover playbook: majority stakes with equity tickets between €100m and €500m, targeting cash-generative businesses where value could be built through operational improvements and buy-and-build consolidation.

John Arney and Jeremy Green have served as Managing Partners since the firm's spinout in 2011, having previously been senior partners at Candover. The investment committee and day-to-day decision-making has historically been concentrated among these senior professionals and the carried-over Candover team, though the firm's governance has shifted as the platform moved from active investing to portfolio management.

Expro, the oilfield services company, was one of the largest and most visible assets in the Candover portfolio that Arle inherited. Arle oversaw Expro through a period of restructuring post-financial crisis and later through a public listing. In 2021, Expro completed a merger with Frank's International, representing the final liquidity event for Arle's stake.
