Founder John H. Brim serves as the firm's Chief Investment Officer and is the central figure in all acquisition and disposition decisions. Brim has guided the strategy since 1999, building the firm around his expertise in distressed credit and asset restructuring. The firm's small team reflects a concentrated decision-making structure rather than a distributed committee model.

Sourcing relies heavily on direct relationships with regional banks, the FDIC, and special servicers across the southeastern United States. BCD bids on pools of non-performing loans and foreclosed real estate that come to market through regulated financial-institution sales. This origination model bypasses intermediated auction processes in favor of long-standing channels built over two decades of operation.

BCD operates as a direct investor, not a fund allocator. The firm purchases whole loans, loan pools, and real estate assets for its own book. There is no public evidence that BCD commits capital to third-party private equity or hedge funds.

Three principal asset classes define the firm's focus: private credit, in the form of distressed corporate and consumer loan portfolios; real estate, including bank-owned land, multifamily, and commercial properties; and special situations, such as litigation claims or regulatory-mandated asset sales. BCD's edge lies in the post-acquisition workout and asset management phase.

Activity concentrates in the southeastern United States, with Florida as the operational base and primary investment market. The firm has also participated in FDIC loan-pool transactions that involve assets across multiple states, but its direct real estate work centers on South Florida and neighboring Sunbelt markets.
