Frequently asked questions
Who runs investment decisions at Bondwire?
Bondwire does not make investment decisions or manage a fund. Shan Siddiqi, the founder and CEO, runs the technology roadmap. Siddiqi previously served as a managing director at BlackRock Solutions and was the primary architect of the Aladdin portfolio and trading platform's initial fixed-income functionality. Bondwire has no disclosed investment committee, as it functions as an execution-engine utility, not an investment manager.
How does Bondwire source proprietary deal flow?
Bondwire does not source deals for a proprietary book. Its technology aggregates live municipal-bond offerings from a consortium of broker-dealers and redistributes them in real time to registered investment advisors and wealth managers. The firm acts as a price-discovery pipe between institutional sell-sides and buy-side intermediaries. It holds no inventory and does not participate in primary issuance underwriting.
Is Bondwire structured as a family office or does it operate more like a venture firm?
Neither. Bondwire is a privately held technology company structured as an aggregator utility for the US municipal bond market. It does not manage external capital, charge asset-based fees, or take limited-partner commitments. The firm derives revenue from subscription or licensing agreements with the broker-dealers and advisory firms that use its quoting network, per its own description of its business model.
Does Bondwire participate in fund commitments or only direct deals?
Bondwire does not participate in fund commitments or take direct bond inventory. It does not operate a hedge fund, SMA platform, or any discretionary investment vehicle. Its role is strictly limited to electronically transmitting and normalizing pre-trade municipal offerings between dealers and advisors. Any actual transaction, settlement, or position-taking occurs bilaterally between the licensed parties that consume Bondwire's data.
How is Bondwire related to BlackRock or the Aladdin platform?
There is no corporate or operational relationship between Bondwire and BlackRock. The connection is biographical: founder Shan Siddiqi previously led the architecture of Aladdin's fixed-income capabilities during his tenure at BlackRock Solutions. Bondwire is an independent entity and does not license, resell, or partner with BlackRock's Aladdin business. Siddiqi applied similar engineering principles to a different market structure problem, but the firms are not affiliated.
