Cantata Health

Cantata Health develops and sells electronic health record (EHR) systems, revenue cycle management software, and practice management tools purpose-built for behavioral health hospitals, addiction treatment centers, and human services agencies. Its platform handles clinical documentation, scheduling, billing, and compliance reporting for inpatient, residential, and outpatient settings. The software is configured for state-specific Medicaid rules, managed care contracts, and accreditation requirements from The Joint Commission and CARF.

Epic and Cerner are designed first for large acute-care hospital systems and adapt their modules to behavioral health settings secondarily. Cantata Health builds natively for behavioral health and human services workflows, with revenue cycle logic that reflects Medicaid behavioral health reimbursement complexity rather than Medicare acute-care DRG billing. This means its compliance and billing configurations are purpose-built for state-by-state behavioral health rules, not retrofitted from general hospital modules.

Cantata Health was formed in 2015 through the acquisition of NTT DATA's public-sector healthcare software business, which itself traced back to the healthcare division of Keane, a legacy IT services firm. The carve-out created a standalone entity focused on behavioral health and human services software. It has since operated under private equity ownership through multiple sponsor cycles.
