DigiCert's market position transformed with the 2017 acquisition of Symantec's Website Security and PKI business, backed by Clearlake Capital Group. DigiCert operates as an operating company, not an institutional investor. While the firm does not deploy capital into third-party cybersecurity startups as a primary activity, its corporate development and DigiCert Labs initiatives do engage with technology partnerships across IoT, post-quantum cryptography, and digital identity standards. The firm's private equity sponsors — Clearlake and TA Associates — manage separate portfolios of cybersecurity and enterprise software companies.

DigiCert generates revenue primarily through recurring subscriptions for SSL/TLS certificates, enterprise PKI management platforms, and IoT device identity services. While precise financials are not disclosed publicly, the firm occupies the top market share position globally in the public certificate authority segment, serving tens of thousands of enterprise and government customers across banking, cloud infrastructure, automotive, and technology sectors.
