Darrel Baumgardner launched Droplet Measurement Technologies in 1987 after spending 20 years at the National Center for Atmospheric Research. Droplet's clients include government laboratories, universities, and private-sector researchers across North America, Europe, and Asia. CEO Jeff Throckmorton has run the company since 2017, succeeding Baumgardner's earlier leadership. The firm employs a team of scientists and engineers and operates from a single facility in Longmont, Colorado. ENVEA, a French environmental monitoring group, acquired Droplet Measurement Technologies and now lists it as a subsidiary. The acquisition was announced on the firm's homepage. Droplet's structural distinction lies in its hybrid identity: a family-office-founded operating company with deep lineage in public-sector atmospheric science, now owned by a European industrial parent. It doesn't manage external capital or deploy investment dollars; it builds and sells measurement tools, which keeps its posture distinct from both conventional family offices and asset managers.
