East Road is exclusively a direct investor. It does not commit to external venture or growth-equity funds, and its LP base consists of institutions that gain exposure to the underlying portfolio companies — primarily enterprise SaaS and fintech — solely through East Road's direct co-investment and secondary transactions.

The firm operates across growth equity, crossover, and select public-market PIPEs, with no rigid stage mandate. It has invested in pre-IPO rounds, held positions through public listing, and occasionally purchased minority stakes in already-public companies it deems undervalued, treating the public-private boundary as an implementation detail rather than a strategy divider.

East Road typically leads or co-leads its own rounds and does not market a co-investment program alongside other GPs. Its limited-partner base of endowments and family offices invests directly into the fund vehicle, not alongside it in separate co-investment sleeves.

East Road has not publicly invested in biotechnology, hard-tech manufacturing, or consumer internet. Its disclosed positions are concentrated heavily in enterprise cloud, fintech infrastructure, and applied-AI companies, which map closely to Viswanathan's NEA track record.

East Road is an independent firm with no formal tie to New Enterprise Associates. Ravi Viswanathan's investment cadence and network overlap with his NEA career, but the firm is structurally separate, raising its own funds and operating without NEA's platform resources or LP base.
