Elliott identifies companies with structural undervaluation that it believes can be corrected through operational, strategic, or governance changes. The firm relies on internal fundamental analysis and legal review, often building positions quietly over time before disclosing its stake and publishing demands.

Elliott generally does not co-invest alongside other activist managers. It prefers to control timing and strategy unilaterally. However, the firm has occasionally collaborated with other credit funds in large distressed-debt restructurings where collective bargaining power improves recovery prospects.
