Estag routinely co-invests alongside other venture and strategic investors. Its Series A participation in GameGenetics closed with Target Partners and High-Tech Gründerfonds, and its SponsorPay backing sat alongside Hasso Plattner Ventures. In the Brainient round, it invested next to Atlas Venture, Credo Ventures, and 500 Startups.

Estag operates almost entirely through direct equity participations in early-stage companies. The word ‘Beteiligungsgesellschaft’ and every publicly named position point to direct shareholdings, with no mention of fund-of-fund commitments or LP stakes in external vehicles.

Estag backed Coulomb Technologies, which became the ChargePoint EV-charging network, during a period when Coulomb raised over $80 million in total funding. It also developed and exited a South African solar project developer, Texforce, to Italy’s Tozzigroup in March 2012 — an exit Dr. Horvath described as Estag’s first in South Africa, completed after a one-year holding period.

Estag is constituted as an AG (Aktiengesellschaft), which gives it a public-company corporate form atypical for German venture firms. This structure can allow for a more flexible, holding-company approach to portfolio construction, accommodating both classic venture-tech bets and project-development equity within the same legal entity.
