Estonian Business Angels Network

Individual angel members decide which startups to back; EstBAN the organisation does not make investment decisions. The network's CEO Anu Oks and the board — chaired by Lauri Antalainen — curate deal flow, vet opportunities, and facilitate syndicates, but every cheque written is a personal decision by the participating business angels.

EstBAN sources primarily through its cross-border network of sister business angel organisations — FiBAN in Finland, LatBAN in Latvia, LitBAN in Lithuania, and DanBAN in Denmark — as well as via Startup Estonia and the Latitude59 Pitch Competition, which the network co-hosts annually. Members also contribute leads via direct entrepreneurial networks, giving the collective a funnel that spans the entire Baltic region.

Neither. EstBAN is a non-profit, member-led association registered under Estonian law. It functions as a deal-sharing and syndication platform for individual angel investors rather than a pooled investment vehicle. There is no centralised fund and no carried interest — members invest directly.

EstBAN's primary model is direct angel investing into seed and start-up companies. However, member status includes 'fund members,' which allows venture capital funds to join the network and observe deal flow. The network itself does not commit to external funds, but fund-member participation can result in co-investment dynamics alongside individual angels.

The network focuses on seed and start-up stages, acting as the bridge between friends-and-family financing and institutional venture capital. Some members also participate in growth-stage follow-on rounds for existing portfolio companies, but the bulk of annual deal volume — 247 deals in 2025 — occurs at the earliest stages.

EstBAN is a full member of the European Trade Association for Business Angels (EBAN) and the Estonian Venture Capital Association (EstVCA). It also cooperates actively with Nordic and Baltic sister networks — FiBAN, LatBAN, LitBAN, and DanBAN — on cross-border training, deal-sharing, and the Nordic Angel Program syndication initiative.

EstBAN is not a philanthropic vehicle and its investment activity is purely commercial. The network's non-profit status refers to its organisational constitution, not to charitable giving. There is no separate foundation or philanthropic arm disclosed by the network.
