Fonds Ecofuel

The firm’s pipeline is built on the legacy of the Ecofuel Accelerator, which the two Managing Partners previously led. That accelerator network gives Fonds Ecofuel visibility into early-stage cleantech companies in Quebec and across Canada before they are widely marketed to institutional investors.

Fonds Ecofuel invests primarily in seed, startup, and early-growth rounds. The fund looks for companies that have developed a technology prototype and are beginning commercialization, with a preference for Canadian-headquartered ventures.

The Managing Partners and team members frequently sit on boards of innovative technology companies, as disclosed in their biographies. Richard Cloutier and Johanne Sévigny both have extensive board experience, and the firm views board participation as a channel for delivering operational guidance alongside capital.

The firm focuses narrowly on clean technologies with high environmental impact. Sectors outside this mandate — such as consumer internet, enterprise SaaS unrelated to sustainability, or traditional heavy industry modernization — fall outside the stated investment perimeter.

Fonds Ecofuel is the investment fund arm that grew out of the Ecofuel Accelerator, a Montreal-based program dedicated to cleantech startups. Richard Cloutier previously served as President and CEO of the accelerator, and Johanne Sévigny was Vice-President, Companies, before they shifted their focus to managing the fund.
