Frontier Insurance Company

Frontier Insurance Company continues as a regulated insurance entity under the Rhulen family's control following the parent group's rehabilitation in 2001. The family restructured rather than dissolved, retaining the underwriting entity along with a premium finance company and a claims adjustment firm in Rock Hill, New York. This allows the firm to write specialty commercial lines while managing servicing and claims internally.

Beyond regulated insurance operations, the Rhulens hold a directly managed portfolio of commercial and residential real estate. Assets include the former Frontier headquarters campus in Rock Hill (sold for redevelopment), undeveloped land parcels in Sullivan County, and a residential property in Grand Cayman. The family also holds fine art — including works by John Wesley and Julian Schnabel — and an equine portfolio.

Harry W. Rhulen, the firm's founder and former Chairman and CEO of Frontier Insurance Group, remains the central decision-maker for both the insurance platform and the family's broader asset portfolio. Suzanne Rhulen Loughlin, former EVP and General Counsel, co-manages the family's operational and philanthropic interests through crisis consultancy CrisisRisk and regional board service.

Firestorm Solutions, a crisis management and business continuity firm, was originally a Rhulen family venture. It was sold to Novume Solutions, Inc. in 2017. Suzanne Rhulen Loughlin later co-founded CrisisRisk, a separate crisis advisory firm, continuing the family's expertise in risk management beyond the insurance carrier.
