GreyBird Ventures
An early stage venture capital firm we invest in companies with technology for precision medicine diagnosis. The technologies in focus have the characteristics of very high specificity and the capability to dramatically improve the choice of optimum therapy and reduce cost. Our companies will have a well-protected IP position and management with deep domain knowledge and a sense of creative thrift. Founded by Michael Devlin and Tom Miller, we are in the early stages of fund-raising but already have investments in prototypical portfolio companies. We have also recruited a team of eight operating advisors located in North America, Europe, and Asia with extremely deep domain expertise and operating experience.

Frequently asked questions
Who runs investment decisions at GreyBird Ventures?
Founder and Managing Partner Tom Miller leads investment decisions, supported by co-founders Michael Devlin and Scott Gazelle. Miller's background as CEO of Siemens Healthcare gives the firm a distinct operational orientation toward medtech and diagnostics. The investment team operates from offices in Concord, Massachusetts, and Rockport, Maine.
What is GreyBird's investment focus?
GreyBird targets early-stage and growth-equity companies in precision diagnostics, medical devices, and healthcare enterprise software. The firm looks for technologies where regulatory clearance creates a revaluation event — imaging platforms, liquid biopsy tools, and AI-driven diagnostic algorithms. The collaboration with the National Foundation for Cancer Research on the Women's Venture Competition suggests oncology diagnostics is a core area of interest.
How does GreyBird Ventures source investment opportunities?
The firm's founding team draws on decades of operating experience inside global medtech companies to identify companies solving real procurement and clinical-workflow problems inside hospital systems. Tom Miller's Siemens Healthcare network provides visibility into emerging technologies that address the integration challenges large health systems face. The firm also accesses deal flow through its membership in the Personalized Medicine Coalition.
Does GreyBird participate in fund commitments or only direct deals?
GreyBird primarily pursues direct investments in early-stage and growth-stage companies, based on its stated strategy and operating-partner model. The firm's co-investor relationships include the National Foundation for Cancer Research, suggesting a willingness to invest alongside mission-aligned institutional partners. The firm does not publicly characterize itself as a fund-of-funds investor.
What is the relationship between GreyBird Ventures and the Personalized Medicine Coalition?
GreyBird is a member firm of the Personalized Medicine Coalition, an industry association that advocates for precision medicine adoption and reimbursement. The membership aligns with GreyBird's investment thesis around molecular diagnostics and targeted therapies, providing the firm with policy insight and industry connectivity that informs its deal evaluation and portfolio support.
Does GreyBird have a philanthropic or foundation structure?
GreyBird collaborates with the National Foundation for Cancer Research on the Women's Venture Competition, an initiative designed to support female entrepreneurs in oncology innovation. Additionally, founder Michael Devlin served as a trustee of the Yale-China Association, reflecting a broader pattern of non-profit engagement among the principals. The firm's website references the AIM-HI Accelerator Fund in connection with its activities.
Where does GreyBird Ventures' capital come from?
The firm does not publicly disclose the composition of its limited partner base or the specific source of its investment capital. The founding principals — Tom Miller, Michael Devlin, and Scott Gazelle — each brought capital and relationships from prior operating and investing careers. The firm has not made public statements about whether it manages a single commingled fund, a series of SPVs, or a permanent capital vehicle.
