Founded in 1886, Hunter Fan Company traces its roots to John Hunter, who began producing ceiling fans in a small shop. The company is now owned by HHI, a holding company formed by Home Depot in 2002 to acquire Hunter and a portfolio of home-related brands; HHI was itself acquired by Platinum Equity in 2023 (per Platinum Equity, June 2023). Hunter manufactures ceiling fans across dozens of styles — modern, farmhouse, industrial, traditional, tropical — and price points from under $200 to over $400. Hunter fans are sold primarily through Home Depot and other big-box retailers, as well as direct to consumer via hunterfan.com. Hunter employs roughly 500 people and maintains its Memphis headquarters plus a sales office in Atlanta (per company filings, 2024).
