IMAS Foundation

IMAS Foundation was established to manage financial assets supporting the INGKA Foundation, which owns Ingka Group and funds the IKEA Foundation. Ingvar Kamprad created the overall structure. The foundation operates as a nonprofit financial services organization with a mandate to produce returns while incorporating responsibility and sustainability. The portfolio allocates to private equity, sustainable listed equities and infrastructure. Core holdings include positions in Osmosis Resource Efficient Core Equity Fund, Ninety One Global Environment Fund and Climate Investor One. Additional commitments cover Infranode in the Nordic region and Asper district heating assets in the Netherlands. Direct holdings include Northvolt and H2 Green Steel in Sweden. Geographic reach centers on Europe with exposure to emerging markets through climate-focused vehicles. The team comprises 12 professionals based in Leiden. IMAS Foundation maintains relationships with service providers including Osmosis Investment Management, Ninety One, BNY Mellon Trust Company and KPMG. In January 2024 it participated as a speaker at the New Private Markets Conference in London on sustainability and energy transition topics. The foundation channels support to INGKA Foundation, which in turn funds the IKEA Foundation's grant-making. IMAS Foundation functions as the dedicated asset manager within a three-foundation architecture that separates operating company ownership from philanthropic distribution. This separation allows the investment mandate to focus on long-term financial returns while the downstream foundations execute grant programs in climate and poverty alleviation.
