Kalamazoo College Endowment

Stryker Corporation, headquartered in Kalamazoo, has a longstanding philanthropic link to the college through trustee and alumni networks. S. Si Johnson, a retired Stryker group president, has been a key donor and governance figure. This corporate-alumni pipeline generates major gifts that flow into the endowment, though the investment office operates independently of Stryker's treasury.

Housed in the Upjohn Library Commons, the A.M. Todd Rare Book Room and the college's permanent art collection represent non-financial cultural assets held by the institution. They are not liquid portfolio investments but require stewardship, insurance, and preservation funding that the endowment's spending policy indirectly supports.

The endowment does not directly fund the Kalamazoo Promise, which is a separate community scholarship program. However, the college is a partner institution: eligible Promise scholars can apply their tuition support to Kalamazoo College, making the relationship strategically important for enrollment and local community engagement.
